Fun facts

    Jürgen Klopp is one of Mainz's most successful exports: the former Borussia Dortmund coach made 337 appearances for the 05ers, before managing them between 2001 and 2008.Mainz are nicknamed the 'Karnevalsverein', or 'Carnival club', due to the city itself being home to one of Germany’s most famous carnivals. Unsurprisingly, another famous export from the city is the 'Humba' chant, now commonplace in Bundesliga grounds after matches.Klopp's successor, Thomas Tuchel, guided Mainz to a sensational fifth place in 2010/11. The attacking trio of Lewis Holtby, Andre Schürrle and Adam Szalai were nicknamed ‘the Bruchweg boys’, due to their propensity to celebrate goals as if they were members of a band.
