- Modeste impresses in Köln's DFB Cup win.
- Rausch provides points at both ends of the field.
- Osako brace makes him a bargain buy.
Modeste may be his name, but modest he certainly is not.
1. FC Köln forward Anthony Modeste does not command such a modest price either, at 14 million euros, but then a close look at his return last season suggests he is worth every cent, and his start to the current campaign could make him one to bank on in the Official Fantasy Bundesliga.
Modeste scored a hat-trick in the first round of the DFB Cup last season, and that was the springboard to a campaign which saw him celebrate 15 times in the Bundesliga. Although his 2016/17 bow may not have been equally emphatic, he still got off on the right foot once again with a goal in the Billy Goats' 7-0 humbling of BFC Preussen.
With a handful of shots on target, the 28-year-old also picked up some bonus points, although a booking blotted his copybook, with a one-point deduction taking him down to seven points all told.
A bigger bargain, based on Köln's cup win, would have been Konstantin Rausch. The defender not only scored, earning him six points, but he provided an assist too. Throw in a 90-minute appearance and a clean sheet, plus win bonus, and Rausch racked up 14 points - give him the captain's armband and you are laughing all the way to the top of the standings.
With only three sides conceding fewer than Köln in the Bundesliga last season, Rausch could represent a wise addition with the points he brings to the table in both an attacking and defensive sense, although if his nine-million tag is beyond budget, for two million less you could bag Yuya Osako.
The Japan international provided eight points with his two goals in the Cup, and he was on the field only 25 minutes. Plenty to ponder, then, with some key Köln candidates for your Official Fantasy Bundesliga squads. So don't delay, pick today!
