VfL Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost faces at least six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a metatarsal fracture in his left foot in training on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Netherlands international caught a stray boot from teammate Dante, according to Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs, and will likely require surgery.

Limited options

Dost is the club's leading scorer this season with seven Bundesliga goals in 16 appearances. Max Kruse and Nicklas Bendtner are the only other recognised strikers at head coach Dieter Hecking's disposal.

The Wolves are currently preparing for the second half of the season in Lagos, Portugal and resume their league campaign away at Eintracht Frankfurt on 24 January.
