Hamburger SV head coach Bruno Labbadia has signed a contract extension valid through to 30 June 2017.

'We want to continue working together'

The 49-year-old's existing deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

"We'd always said it was only going to be a matter of time before extending the contract," Labbadia explained from HSV's winter training camp in Belek, Turkey. "The only reason it's not for longer than a year is that we don't want to complicate things. We want to continue working together and just like now get together and talk in a year's time. I've loved our time together and I'm really up for tackling our objectives with HSV."

Labbadia was appointed Hamburg coach for the second time in his career last April, with the club in real danger of being relegated to the second tier for the first time in their history. He steered the Red Shorts to safety via the play-offs and has continued his good work in 2015/16, with HSV currently tenth in the standings.
