Johnson has not been able to take full part in the Foals’ mid-season preparations after picking up an Achilles tendon injury in December, but the 29-year-old midfielder could now make his comeback in the Foals' Rückrunde opener at SV Darmstadt 98 next Saturday.

Johnson’s midfield colleagues Ibrahima Traore (groin) and Patrick Herrmann (ankle) still have further rehabilitation ahead of them and have been performing individual training exercises with training staff.

Centre back Nico Elvedi has returned to light training following a pelvic problem, but Tobias Strobl is expected to be out for quite some time after damaging a tendon in his pelvic region during the team’s training camp in Spain.

Strobl, 26, has become a mainstay in Gladbach's midfield this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions following his summer move from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
