Marcel Schmelzer to remain Borussia Dortmund captain
Marcel Schmelzer will remain captain of Borussia Dortmund during the second half of the Bundesliga season.
There had been some media discussion about whether the return to form and fitness of Marco Reus would mean the attacking midfielder wearing the armband in the Rückrunde, but BVB coach Thomas Tuchel has moved quickly to address the matter and end any speculation.
"Marcel Schmelzer is and will remain our captain," said Tuchel from Dortmund’s winter training camp. "I've spoken with both of them and we all agree unanimously that Schmelle has been, and will continue to be, a great captain."
For his part, Schmelzer, who has been at Dortmund for almost 12 years, described it as "a huge honour".
