Alaba, 23, has been with the Bavarians since 2009 and will continue to wear their colours for the next five years. "I'm really proud that I will continue to play for my club," Alaba said. "I grew up at FC Bayern and have had some amazing experiences here, and we're all hungry to ensure more titles follow the ones we've already won."

Alaba has played a total of 141 times in the Bundesliga for Bayern, scoring 11 goals. He also played 17 times in a six-month loan with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in early 2011, and has four Bundesliga titles, one UEFA Champions League, three DFB Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in his collection.

The versatile defender, who plays in midfield for his country, has been voted Austria's Footballer of the Year each year since 2011, while he was also named his country's best sportsperson in 2013 and 2014.

"David Alaba is one of Bayern's own products, which is why him signing a new contract today until 2021 is so special," said Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "He's one of those players who gives the team the identity they have today. His way of playing, but also his conduct off the field, embody everything about FC Bayern. He's going to be a cornerstone of this team for years to come."
