Bayern's Kimmich withdraws from Germany U-21 squad

FC Bayern München's rising star Joshua Kimmich has withdrawn from Germany's U-21 squad due to injury.

The 21-year-old, who has started 11 of the Bundesliga leaders' league games so far this season, played the full 90 minutes in Bayern's 1-0 victory away to 1. FC Köln on Matchday 27, but is now suffering with muscular complaints. He will stay in Munich to receive treatment, the DFB (Deutscher Fußball-Bund) confirmed on Monday.

VfL Wolfsburg's Maximilian Arnold and Eintracht Frankfurt's Marc Stendera will likewise play no part for the U-21s due to their respective calf and adductor injuries, while VfB Stuttgart's Timo Werner is rated doubtful.

The U-21s are due to face the Faroe Islands on Thursday and Russia on Tuesday 29 March as part of their qualifying campaign for the 2017 European Championship in Poland. Germany currently top Group 7 having won all five of their fixtures thus far.
