Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez has vowed to kick on from becoming Mexico's joint leading goalscorer.

The Bayer 04 Leverkusen forward drew level with Jared Borgetti with his 46th goal in 89 appearances for his country in their 2-0 win over Costa Rica. Borgetti did not go on to make any more than 89 appearances, but Chicharito is set for his 90th against Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, and that could be when he starts penning a new goalscoring chapter for his country.

"It's very nice, but this is just beginning, that's how I see it," said Chicharito. "It helps my confidence to be joint top-scorer. It is something I never dreamed about or even imagined."

Chicharito, 28, has proven his worth for club and country, with ten goals in 23 Bundesliga games this season placing him seventh on the current scoring charts. However, it is not just his goals that make him such a key player, as his compatriot Miguel Layun explained.

"He spreads energy and he's important in the emotional side of the group," Layun said. "Chicharito's goal was also important. Scoring early allows you to control the game a lot more and be calmer."
