FC Bayern München’s injury problems show no sign of abating after it was confirmed that defender Holger Badstuber suffered a fractured ankle in training on Saturday.

Lacking defensive cover

The 26-year-old centre-back has already undergone surgery and will be out for approximately three months.

His diagnosis is a blow for Pep Guardiola, particularly with fellow centre-backs Jerome Boateng, Medhi Benatia and Javi Martinez also injured, but it is especially disappointing for Badstuber himself after his recent return to fitness this season following a succession of knee and hamstring injuries.

Badstuber, who has won 31 caps for Germany, has made just 17 Bundesliga appearances since his first serious injury, a torn cruciate knee ligament in a league game against Borussia Dortmund in December 2012.

Team-mates and fellow players have taken to Twitter to wish the defender a speedy recovery:

"Dear Holger, I hope you get well soon with all my heart. I'm sure we'll see each other in France at EURO 2016 - out on the pitch!"
