Since his breakthrough season for Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2011-12, Reus has established himself as one of the darlings of German football. Born and raised a Dortmund supporter, he returned to his hometown club in 2012 and has matured into one of the pillars of the Germany national team, as well as one of the most gifted and elegant attacking midfielders in the world game. Here's a few interesting facts you may not have know about the 26-year-old:
- Of the 81 Bundesliga goals Reus has scored to date, 34 have been the all-important strikes to put his side 1-0 up.
- During his spell in Mönchengladbach, Reus was named Germany’s Player of the Year for 2012 - the first Foals player to earn the prize in a quarter of a century. The last person to do so was Uwe Rahn in 1987.
- On 31 May 2008, Reus’ 19th birthday, he scored his first ever goal for RW Ahlen, securing the club promotion to Bundesliga 2.
