Mario Götze has tipped Peter Stöger to get the good times rolling again at Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season.

Stöger replaced Peter Bosz as Dortmund's head coach towards the back end of the first half of the season, successfully hoisting the Westphalians back up to third after they had drifted as far back as eighth under the Dutchman.

With several uninterrupted weeks of work now behind them during the winter break, Götze is increasingly impressed with his new boss's methods, and believes the teeth of their cogs are going to grind into place between now and May.

"I'm convinced he's going to bring us the stability we need and lead us forward in the second half of the season," Götze told the Bild newspaper. "He communicates with us a lot, is open and approachable – I think he's a great solution and a fantastic coach."

Götze will be hoping his own game can flourish under Stöger as he plans on bringing his own experience to the table in 2018, and putting more injury agony – the latest setback in his ankle – behind him in the run up to the World Cup.

"I've been through a lot, on and off the field, and I've won many titles," said the 25-year-old. "That's all experience that put me in a position to dish out advice and for me to be able to deal with the current situation and help the team and the club."

Götze was limited to just nine starts in the first half of the season, with only one goal coming – in the dramatic Revierderby draw with Schalke.
