There was a new face on the pitch for Bayern Munich against RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup in the form of Hamburg-born Ghanaian striker Kwasi Okyere Wriedt.

Having been named on the bench of Bayern's squad on Matchday 8 in the Bundesliga against Freiburg, Wriedt went one step better on Wednesday night by coming off the bench to help Jupp Heynckes' side eventually beat Leipzig on penalties.

Wriedt has been rewarded for his performances with Bayern's second team, in which he has struck nine times in ten Regionalliga outings so far this season - including a goal in the Derby win over 1860 Munich last weekend, building on the 12 goals he scored for Osnabruck in Germany's Third Division last term.

He came on in the first half of extra-time during Bayern's tense win over Leipzig but was not required to take a penalty in the forthcoming shoot-out, which saw Sven Ulreich become the hero, saving from Timo Werner.

Wriedt became only the second African player in history to pull on the famous red shirt of Bayern after legendary defender Sammy Kuffour (1993-2005) and we are sure it will be the first of many occasions to come in the near future.
