Jerome Boateng will miss German champions Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga World Tour trip in Asia, which begins on 16 July.

The World Cup-winning centre-back picked up a thigh muscle injury in the 4-1 win over Freiburg on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign, and the club have decided not to risk him in the scheduled friendly games against Arsenal, AC Milan, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

“It’s better for Boateng to complete his rehabilitation at Säbener Strasse [Bayern’s training centre],” said CB coach Carlo Ancelotti. “When the season starts in August he can be fully fit for us once again.”

Boateng has won five Bundesliga titles as well as the DFB Cup and Champions League since joining Bayern from Manchester City in 2011.
