Mönchengladbach - Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed Danish international Andreas Christensen from Chelsea FC on a two-year loan deal.

'Very promising'

The 19-year-old defender, who won his first two caps for Denmark last season as well as competing in the UEFA Under-21 Championships, passed his medical at the Borussia Park on Friday before participating in the club's Bundesliga media day. He will remain at the Foals until June 2017 and wear the number three shirt.

"Andreas is a very promising young talent who can play in several positions across the backline," said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl. "We're very pleased to have been able to have loaned him from Chelsea."

Christensen made three first-team appearances for Premier League champions Chelsea FC in 2014/15. He also featured for the full Danish national side against Montenegro and Serbia in June, before helping his country's U-21s reach the European Championship semi-finals alongside SV Werder Bremen's Jannik Vestergaard.
