Freiburg will enter into the third qualifying round of the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League, following Borussia Dortmund's DFB Cup final win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The DFB Cup winners typically earn a ticket into the Europa League, but as Dortmund are already guaranteed a berth in the UEFA Champions League group stage by virtue of their top-three finish, seventh-placed Freiburg receive Germany's third and final Europa League spot.

The Bundesliga's sixth-placed team Hertha Berlin now qualify directly for the group stage alongside fifth-in-the-table Cologne.

There is a long road ahead for Freiburg, however, with three qualifying rounds and a play-off phase preceding the group stage.
