Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has been ruled out for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury picked up on international duty with Austria.

After injuring his ankle in a challenge during Austria's 1-1 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw with Georgia in Vienna, Alaba was withdrawn after 38 minutes.

Following tests on Wednesday in Munich, the 25-year-old's left foot was confirmed as having suffered damage and the left-back will be unavailable to Carlo Ancelotti for an indefinite period of time.

In good news for the Bundesliga champions, however, Sebastian Rudy, who was substituted after taking a knock in Germany’s 6-0 win over Norway on Monday, returned to training on Wednesday. He is expected to be involved against his former club Hoffenheim on Saturday.
