SV Darmstadt 98 have added real experience to their squad with the signing of world champion Kevin Großkreutz. The 28-year-old has signed a deal with the Lilies until 2019.

Darmstadt head coach Torsten Frings has said, “I am thrilled and unbelievably proud to have a player like Kevin Großkreutz joining Darmstadt. He is a vastly experienced player, a world champion and has played at the highest level. I sensed in talks with him how excited he is about the challenge here. He will be an important part of our team both on and off the pitch for next season.”

The player himself added, “I am really looking forward to playing for Darmstadt. Torsten Frings went to a great effort to sign me, and both he and the board convinced me that this is the right step for me to take in my career. Just like at all my previous clubs, I will do my all for the success of the team.”

After making 236 competitive appearance for Dortmund, he moved to Galatasaray in Turkey in 2015, before returning to Germany with VfB Stuttgart in 2016. He was released by the Bundesliga 2 side in March, making it possible for Darmstadt to sign him. However, he is not eligible to play again this season after already appearing for two clubs this season, and will therefore only begin his career with the Lilies in 2017/18.
