Fans of Bundesliga 2 outfit Jahn Regensburg faced a 1094-kilometre round trip to watch their team play high-flying Fortuna Düsseldorf on Wednesday, only to see Achim Beierlorzer’s side slip to a 1-0 defeat at the ESPRIT Arena.

The 100 or so visiting supporters who did make the long trip up north were rewarded for their loyalty and dedication at half-time, however, with home fans and employees of Aramark - the company that provides the catering at Fortuna’s stadium - offering the Jahn faithful free beer at the interval. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining…

Translation: Because Regensburg fans have travelled so far this week, Fortuna fans and arena caterers Aramark will be handing out free beer to the 100 travelling Jahn supporters at half-time. Enjoy!

The Regensburg fans will have gone home with smiles on their faces despite the result, which leaves the Bavarian club in 16th place in Bundesliga 2, just two points clear of the automatic relegation positions.

Düsseldorf, meanwhile, climb back to the top of the table thanks to Emir Kujovic’s second-half strike.
