Bremen - SV Werder Bremen have completed the signing of USMNT striker Aron Johannsson from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar.

'It’s the right step'

The 24-year-old, who scored 29 goals in 58 Dutch top-flight appearances, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal valid until 30 June 2019 after completing his medical on Wednesday.

“Aron was our absolute first-choice candidate for the vacant position up front,” explained sporting director Thomas Eichin upon announcing the deal. “That’s why we’re so delighted that he has made the decision to join us. Aron is a great fit for our squad both in a sporting and personal sense.”

The Alabama native, meanwhile, was also quick to express his delight at signing for a club steeped in tradition. “It’s the right step for me to take in order to move forward in my development,” said Johannsson. “Werder Bremen are a big club for whom I will give my utmost to further develop myself and make my own contribution to the success of the team.”
