After hobbling out of Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 victory at bottom side Cologne at the weekend, England Under-17 international Jadon Sancho is facing a spell on the sidelines with an ankle issue.

The 17-year-old had come on as a 72nd-minute substitute for Christian Pulisic during Friday night's away win, but was forced off after only 18 minutes in clear discomfort. Subsequent tests at Dortmund headquarters revealed the player injured ankle ligaments and would undertake a recovery process over the coming weeks.

The news will come as a setback to Dortmund and Sancho, who has been making great strides at the club since signing from English Premier League side Manchester City. Just last month, the Londoner became the first Englishman in history to start a Bundesliga game for Die Schwarzgelben while he has managed six appearances in Germany's top flight to date.

Peter Stöger's side are next in action on Saturday, when they host Hamburg, prior to facing a Europa League test against Atalanta the following Thursday.
