Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng has been recalled by Germany coach Joachim Löw for next week’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but no Borussia Dortmund players feature in the squad.

Injury has limited Boateng to just two of Die Nationalmannschaft’s eight Group C matches so far, but now fit, the centre-back has returned to the international fold where he is joined by Bayern team-mates Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle, Joshua Kimmich, Sebastian Rudy and Thomas Müller, who will be seeking to extend their nation’s perfect qualifying record.

Mesut Özil has been omitted from the squad, while no Borussia Dortmund players are included, despite the club's flying start to the Bundesliga season. Julian Weigl has just recovered from an ankle injury, while Mario Götze continues to build up his fitness.

With Wolfsburg’s Mario Gomez sidelined by an ankle injury, Hoffenheim forward Sandro Wagner is also back in the squad for the game in Northern Ireland — where a point will see the 2014 FIFA World Cup winners stamp their ticket for next summer’s finals — on 5 October and the encounter with Azerbaijan in Kaiserslautern three days later.
