Borussia Dortmund will be without defender Marc Bartra after the 25-year-old picked up an adductor injury during his team's 5-1 win against VfL Wolfsburg. Having missed the midweek encounter in Lower Saxony, André Schürrle is again a doubt, with the Germany international nursing a strained knee ligament.
SC Freiburg may opt to return Caglar Söyüncü into their back four, while pushing Nicolas Höfler into defensive midfield also remains an option for coach Christian Streich. Nils Petersen - scorer of his team's winner in the midweek 1-0 win against Hamburger SV - and Janik Haberer could come into Freiburg's first-team plans.
Dortmund's meeting with Freiburg kicks off at 20:30CEST/18:30GMT on Friday 22 September at the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Click here to find out where to watch the game where you are.
