The visitors, still searching for their first league win of the season, could have taken the lead inside the opening seconds at the BORUSSIA-PARK when Pascal Groß’s lofted through-ball found Alfredo Morales, but the USMNT international failed to connect properly and Yann Sommer gathered with ease. The chance appeared to stir Gladbach from their slumber as Mahmoud Dahoud stung the palms of Örjan Nyland with a toe-poked effort, before Lars Stindl capitalised on a botched Ingolstadt clearance to sidefoot home and give the hosts a slender half-time lead.

The goal was harsh on Die Schanzer, who started the second half just as brightly as the first. Morales twice went close within five minutes of the restart, before Fabian Johnson was thwarted by Nyland at the other end. Markus Kauczinski’s side began to leave gaps at the back as they pushed for a leveller, and Julian Korb very nearly wrapped things up when he slammed a low shot against the post. It mattered little, though, as Oscar Wendt finished off a flowing Borussia counter-attack 15 minutes from time to put the game beyond Ingolstadt’s reach.
Talking Point
Ingolstadt may still be searching for their first league victory of the campaign, but Markus Kauczinski should not be too downhearted after a promising display at the home of the UEFA Champions League participants. If Kauczinski’s charges can perform like this every week, they should be able to keep their heads above water this season.
