Wolfsburg - VfL Wolfsburg match-winner Bas Dost was keen to highlight the improvement the Wolves have made in recent years following their 2-0 triumph over Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

bundesliga.com has the best of the post-match reaction from the Volkswagen Arena.

Bas Dost: “I think it was a difficult match but we played very well. I knew that at the end there would also be a good chance for us because we have a good team and we always have opportunities. Winning matches like this is so important. When I first arrived here I think we would have drawn this game but now I wasn’t worried that we would draw: we have the quality. We’re still searching for a new system after losing the players that left but we’re doing well and things are getting better and better. I think this will be a fantastic season.”

Dante: “It wasn’t easy. They were very well organised and very compact. We’ve got games coming up midweek and that’s difficult for every team but I think we worked hard right until the very end here, so congratulations to the team. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of friends when we play Bayern on Tuesday.”

Josuha Guilavogui: “The first half was very hard because Hertha played well. We tried to put them under pressure but they always managed to play it out from the back. We had more tempo in our game in the second half and our substitutes made the difference.

Marcel Schäfer: “We knew beforehand that we’d have to be patient. Hertha played well and were good at the back. We lacked a bit of cutting edge up front but in the second half we were better and I think we deserved to win 2-0.

Hertha Berlin

Per Skjelbred: “I think we played very well today against a good opponent. Everything went well until the 76th minute when they scored their first goal. I think until that point either side could have won because it was a very open game. They have a lot of quality though and they scored when they made just one chance. We gave everything to try to get the three points but we were just unlucky.
