For nine years, Jakub Blaszczykowski wore the black and yellow of Borussia Dortmund with pride, yet he never really got an official send-off when he moved to Italy's ACF Fiorentina in 2015.

On Matchday 4, he came up against his former club for the first time since leaving them, wearing the green of VfL Wolfsburg. It was an opportunity the travelling Dortmund fans did not want to pass up on, and what happened after the final whistle at the VW-Arena was pure emotion.

Celebrating their team's 5-1 win was not enough for the Dortmund fans, who noticed one player was missing from the congregation of BVB players stood accepting their applause in front of the away fans' section.

That man was Blaszczykowski. He may no longer be a Dortmund player, and he may have had little reason to celebrate, having been on the losing side, but he was nevertheless touched to be summoned over by the Dortmund fans and players alike for a fitting tribute.

A man who made almost 200 appearances for the Westphalians may have looked out of place in his green shirt amid a sea of yellow, yet he was right where he belonged at the same time, taking the acclaim from those who revered and continue to respect the 30-year-old Pole.

Holding back the tears was the hardest challenge 'Kuba' faced in that emotional moment.
