Cloud nine for Dortmund as perfect start continues

Hanover – Borussia Dortmund ensured they made the best ever start to a Bundesliga season after four matches with a 4-2 victory at Hannover - their club-record ninth win in a row in all competitions.

After dominating the early exchanges, Borussia fell behind when Artur Sobiech swept the hosts in front. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had earlier sent a header wide himself, but he was not to be denied a fourth goal of the season, rolling home from the penalty spot after Felipe had fouled Jonas Hofmann. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s sensational run of scoring then continued as he thundered a half-volley into the corner to put BVB 2-1 up at the break.

Heading out for the second half, Thomas Tuchel’s men would have been confident of securing that ninth straight win, but their plans were upset when Sobiech capitalised on a Mats Hummels error to lash in an equaliser. BVB were not level for long, however, as Felipe put through his own net under pressure from Aubameyang, before the Gabonese forward chipped home another penalty after Felipe handled in the box.

Man of the match

Aubameyang had been in scintillating form before the international break, and there was no sign of his rhythm being disrupted here, as he scored his fourth and fifth league goals of the season with two clinically taken penalties, as well as proving a menace for the home defence all afternoon.

Talking point

Head coach Thomas Tuchel can currently do no wrong at Dortmund. With nine straight victories to start his reign, the 42-year-old has now presided over the best start to a season in Borussia Dortmund’s history.
