Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Marco Fabian was happy to have scored his first ever Bundesliga goal in his side's 2-1 triumph over Bayer 04 Leverkusen, putting in a strong performance he said was the result of hard work on the training pitch.

The 27-year-old was the key figure for the Eagles, scoring one and making the other, while his countryman Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez was on the scoresheet for the visitors, their feats coming just a day after Mexico's Independence Day celebrations.

Watch: A proud Fabian reacts to his maiden Bundesliga goal:

Marco Fabian (Frankfurt midfielder): "This moment is the reward for all my hard work. I've been waiting for this moment and you have to make the most of them when they come along in football. I think I did that well today. Now I have to keep going. Today I was on the winning side [against Chicharito]. He was the villain today, he scored one but missed a penalty afterwards, but that's just how it goes in football sometimes. I think we've done Mexico proud to have both scored today in a good game. My team won but I think everyone at home will be happy."

Niko Kovac (Frankfurt coach): "It was a very intense game with plenty of emotion. We created a lot of chances. I'm very happy. We wanted to win it after they equalised."

Julian Brandt (Leverkusen midfielder): "It was a stupid defeat. Things have been a bit silly lately. It's the second game we could've definitely won but we've thrown away. Things aren't ideal at the moment but the good thing about having midweek fixtures is that games come thick and fast and you can forget about past matches relatively quickly."

Kevin Kampl (Leverkusen midfielder): "It didn't go well today. Obviously we'd have liked to have won this game today and we had enough chances to do so. Apart from the two goals they scored, Frankfurt didn't trouble us much going forward. After we equalised we should have scored one or two more. We had the opportunities to do that, but we have to be more clinical in front of goal."
