Bremen - SV Werder Bremen goalscorer Aron Johannsson was delighted to have got off the mark for the club in their first win of the season over Borussia Mönchengladbach, who were understandably frustrated after slumping to their worst ever start to a Bundesliga campaign.

Aron Johannsson: “It’s hard to describe [what it’s like playing for Bremen] but it’s a very special feeling, especially coming out in front of 42,000 fans who are all signing and the stadium is rocking the whole time. It’s a very nice feeling. I wanted to take the penalty. I’ve taken a lot of them before and done well, although I’ve also missed a few. That gives you experience and I was confident in myself. I think the partnership with Anthony Ujah is going well but of course it can go better. We’ve only played together for a couple of games and it takes time to perfect a partnership but we’re clicking well."

Jannik Vestergaard: “There was a great atmosphere in the stadium and we played very well. Before the game we said we’d need to push ourselves to the limit against a side as strong as Gladbach and I think you could see that we did that. We fought unbelievably hard and are now very tired, but can go into the international break feeling good. It's great having strikers like Aron Johannsson and Anthony Ujah in the team as they give us confidence going into every game because they're so good in front of goal."

Borussia Mönchengladbach

Granit Xhaka: "I'm at bit lost for words. [...] We played well today but conceded twice from set-piece situations. We lost possession needlessly in the build-up to their first penalty and we were asleep when they scored from a corner. We shouldn’t be conceding goals like that. We created chances to score ourselves but we just didn’t make the most of them. It’s disappointing to be going home without any points again.”

Patrick Herrmann: "We weren't expecting such a difficult start into the season. We didn't do badly today, but we shouldn't have let in those two goals and we have to score more. It's important for us to get back on track in the Bundesliga. We have to find the right balance between the Bundesliga and the Champions League, but I'm sure we will."

Roel Brouwers: "After going behind at 2-1 we had a good chance to equalise but unfortunately we didn’t take advantage of it. Obviously we’d prefer to have the opportunity to make amends next weekend rather than go on the international break. We need to keep working and do more in order to start picking up points again."
