FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund played out a hugely entertaining 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga's 88th Revierderby.

FC Schalke 04 2-2 Borussia Dortmund

Goals: 0-1 Kagawa (49'), 1-1 Sane (51'), 1-2 Ginter (56'), 2-2 Huntelaar (pen. 66')

With eight changes from the side which held Liverpool in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, Dortmund took their time settling into the match. USA international Christian Pulisic, making only his second league start, managed that quicker than most and his angled shot only just missed the far post as Dortmund threatened to go in front first. Schalke then hit back with Leroy Sane's distant effort striking the right-hand upright and going wide, before Junior Caicara angled an effort just past of the other post.

The visitors enjoyed the better start to the second half and a delightful lob from Shinji Kagawa saw them take the lead. No sooner had their celebrations ended, however, Schalke were back on terms, Sane producing a controlled finish to lash past Roman Bürki. Matthias Ginter rose to head Dortmund back in front from Henrikh Mkhitaryan's free-kick just five minutes later, but there were plenty of legs still on this Revierderby. A foul by Sokratis Papastathopoulos on Huntelaar inside the area allowed the Dutchman to bring Schalke back on terms and earn them a point.
