Schalke received a boost last week when Spanish full back Coke captained their side in a 3-1 friendly win over Hannover. The summer signing from Sevilla had suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his very first pre-season game for the Royal Blues. Atsuto Uchida also played in the Hannover game but it is highly unlikely that either player will be thrown back into the side for the Revierderby.

Having been left out of the starting line-up for the win over Mainz following their Europa League exploits a few days earlier, the likes of Matija Nastasic, Nabil Bentaleb and Daniel Caligiuri could all return.

Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel rotated his squad during a steady stream of matches before the international break but he is set to name a stronger line-up compared to the one that beat Ingolstadt 1-0 last time out.

Julian Weigl left the Germany camp before their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on Sunday with a thigh problem. But if he is fit, the midfielder is likely to return to the visiting team along with the likes of Marc Bartra and Ousmane Dembele, who is back from a one-match ban.
