The clock is ticking for Ingolstadt in their bid to avoid the drop but they face teams in the bottom half of the table in their next five matches, which could be their saving grace.Die Schanzer will have taken plenty of encouragement from their 1-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 25, when they created enough chances to earn at least a point.

Yet if Ingolstadt are to survive at the end of their second year in the top flight, then surely they will have to make the most of the five home games they have left.

Mainz have been sucked worryingly close to the bottom three after losing two in a row before the international break. The 05ers slipped up at bottom club Darmstadt in their last away match and can ill afford a similar outcome on Sunday given that they are only two points above Hamburg, who currently occupy the relegation play-off place.

A win at Ingolstadt though would at least increase the gap over the home side – and the automatic relegation places - to 13 points.
