Ja-Cheol Koo (Augsburg striker): “The last few minutes were catastrophic for us. We scored three goals to go 3-0 up and after that we should’ve worked a bit harder defensively. They scored three goals so we only got a point today, which is a shame. Having scored three goals today I really wanted to win the game, so it’s such a shame we didn’t. I’d prefer for us to win games than for me to score goals because we need points.”

Paul Verhaegh (Augsburg captain): “We were 3-0 up and cruising and then we did everything wrong. Normally if you’re 3-0 up then it’s game over, but that wasn’t the case today. We stopped pressing and Leverkusen had a lot of the ball. Instead of defending from the front we dropped further back and that’s how it happened.”

Markus Weinzierl (Augsburg coach): “That result hurts. We were leading 3-0 and looked like certain winners – but that wasn’t the case. They conceded too quickly and then their second was an own goal. That put the wind back in Leverkusen’s sails. We were already celebrating after we went 3-0 up and you can’t do that.”

Hakan Calhanoglu (Leverkusen midfielder): “It was a very difficult game today, it was unbelievable. I think we played well as a team and were better in the second half. Huge credit to the team for being able to come back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3. I’ve shown before that I can shoulder responsibility and the team trusts me. I was happy to play today and to have scored the equaliser. You always have to stay positive and fight until the very end.”

Karim Bellarabi (Leverkusen attacker): “We went into this game determined to win it, but were in a bad situation by half-time and then we conceded a third. That we were able to come back the way we did is obviously a good sign and shows the morale in the team. It’s positive for the coming weeks. The goals we conceded were too easy: I think their first two goals were from long balls. We made the most of the chances we had in the second half so I think a draw is a fair result.”
