Hertha's Salomon Kalou missed training on Wednesday after picking up a minor foot injury but suffered a "cut in a sensitive area" according to coach Pal Dardai and could miss out. However, Slovakia international Ondrej Duda will be included in Dardai's 18-man squad for the first time this season after being sidelined with knee problems since his summer move from Legia Warszawa. Striker Julian Schieber underwent a knee operation on Monday, and is set to be out until 2018.

Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac has to contend with several absences as his side attempt to snap a two-game losing streak. David Abraham and Omar Mascarell are both suspended, while Jesus Vallejo is out with a muscle injury. Kovac may therefore opt for a three-man defence of Makoto Hasebe, Michael Hector and Bastian Oczipka, with Max Besuschkow and Mijat Gacinovic starting in central midfield. Winger Danny Blum could take the place of 18-year-old Aymen Barkok on the right flank.
