Bundesliga support on World Cancer Day

Thursday 4 February is World Cancer Day - a day to focus efforts on the fight against an illness which affects everybody, directly or indirectly, in their lifetime.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim captain Pirmin Schwegler has led by example, launching a fundraising effort for infants and children who are suffering from cancer. His 'Mein Klub – meine Hilfe' (my club – my support) campaign has been backed by several of his Bundesliga colleagues, who have been pledging donations for every point their team pick up between now and the end of the season.

bundesliga.com has collated a selection of the pledges from Bundesliga stars…

Dear football friends and fans. Today is World Cancer Day! I myself beat cancer a good 25 years ago. I have not least the University Clinic of Berne to thank that I am a professional footballer today, which is why I, on this special day, am launching a new project in support of the Berne foundation for infants and children with cancer. Giving something back to this clinic is very dear to my heart. Let's do something good and all do something to help. Every Swiss Franc/Euro counts! With heartfelt thanks, Pirmin Schwegler and friends.

Sebastian Rode (FC Bayern München)

For the #meinklubmeinehilfe project, I am pledging €100 per point we pick up with FC Bayern in the second half of the season.

Kevin Volland (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim)

Today is World Cancer Day. Since Hoffenheim already have two of my team-mates pledging money for Pirmin Schwegler's project, I'm going to pledge 150 Euros for each point that my former club [TSV 1860 Munich] pick up in the second half of the season. You can also pledge money by picking the club of your choice and posting a picture with your pledge. We can all help!

Admir Mehmedi (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)

Today is World Cancer Day! For every point FC Winterthur pick up in the Rückrunde, I'm pledging 100 Francs for children with cancer. Make sure you pledge money with your favourite club and post your picture with the amount and #meinklubmeinehilfe. Let's all help!

Fabian Lustenberger (Hertha Berlin)

Today is World Cancer Day! In aid of Pirmin Schwegler's project for children with cancer, I'm donating 200 Euros for every point we pick up in the second half of the season. Make sure you donate with your favourite side and post your photo along with #meinklubmeinehilfe. Get involved, all of you!!! Thank you very much!!!
