FC Ingolstadt 04 can move above Hamburger SV and out of the automatic relegation places if they improve the worst Bundesliga home record this season with what would be just a second win at their own ground.

Ingolstadt were cruelly denied a point in Gelsenkirchen last weekend when FC Schalke 04 scored an injury-time winner, so Maik Walpurgis could give the same starting 11 another chance to impress. Senior striker Moritz Hartmann will play no part, however, after he suffered a thigh injury in training. Walpurgis will have to make do without defender Marcel Tisserand for a little longer, though. Tisserand helped the Democratic Republic of Congo top their group at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and will be in action against Ghana in this weekend’s quarter-finals.

Hamburg lost 1-0 at VfL Wolfsburg last weekend and the consequences of that reverse are still being felt. Albin Ekdal is suspended for Matchday 18 after the Swede became the fifth HSV player to be red-carded this season. Captain Gotoku Sakai is doubtful but has resumed training after picking up a knock last weekend.

If the Japanese player is pushed back into midfield in place of Ekdal, then Dennis Diekmeier should slot in at right back. No.1 goalkeeper Rene Adler is also nearing full fitness after an adductor problem but it remains to be seen whether he will be healthy enough to dislodge Christian Mathenia from the team this weekend.
