Tens of thousands of Bundesliga fans voted on Twitter throughout the process, which whittled down a field of 16 candidates to the final four, at which point Reus prevailed, garnering 33 per cent of Twitter users' votes to Uchida's 30 per cent. Aubameyang drew 20 per cent of the final poll, with Kagawa bringing up the rear with 17 per cent.

The victory caps a fine end to the year for Reus, who has returned to form for BVB with a bang, scoring one goal and recording three assists in his four appearances so far this season.

Reus inherits the trophy from last year's winner, Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, who exited this season's poll at the semi-final stage.
