There was a marked contrast in emotions in the wake of VfL Wolfsburg's 6-0 drubbing of SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 13.

VfL Wolfsburg 6-0 SV Werder Bremen

Goals: 1-0 Galvez (o.g. 11'), 2-0 Kruse (44'), 3-0 Vieirinha (56'), 4-0 Guilavogui (67'), 5-0 Dost (78'), 6-0 Kruse (87')

Bas Dost (Wolfsburg striker): "I think today you saw what we’re capable of. I have to compliment everyone involved. There was nothing lucky about it. There were no lucky goals; they were all well worked. We’ve said it a lot already, but we have a lot of quality and we showed that today."

Marcel Schäfer (Wolfsburg defender): "I think the international break did us good. One or two people have had a few things to say because of how we’ve played in recent weeks, but today was completely different. Everything came together and it was the right response. Obviously it’s even nicer when you win a game 6-0. We really started to enjoy ourselves in the first half, we could and perhaps should have scored more. The result’s a fair reflection of the game."

Diego Benaglio (Wolfsburg goalkeeper): "I think it was the dominant performance we’d been looking for. It was important given what the critics have had to say and also after our last couple of games, which didn’t go as planned. It went really well today, though. We dominated, and hopefully it’s the start of a strong end to the Hinrunde."

Dieter Hecking (Wolfsburg head coach): "There’s very little to criticise when you win 6-0 […] Now we can go into the Champions League game in Moscow with confidence, although we are well aware that it will be a completely different game."

Zlatko Junuzovic (Bremen midfielder): "It was not a good afternoon for us at all. It was really hard to defend. We weren’t urgent enough. Wolfsburg played some exhilarating stuff. We fell flat on our faces today. Every goal hurt."

Felix Wiedwald (Bremen goalkeeper): "It’s terrifying how we threw the game away. Never in my career have I conceded six goals [in one game], that’s pretty sobering. Our last outing away from home was decent, so it’s really hard to explain today. The whole team contributed to the defeat."

Viktor Skripnik (Bremen head coach): "Wolfsburg fully deserved to win. Today we saw Wolfsburg play how they did so often last season. For us, on the other hand, nothing went right. Once they scored a third, that was it for us. […] We know the position we’re in and that our only objective this season is to avoid relegation."
