Bayer 04 Leverkusen were in buoyant mood after ending a run of three straight defeats in all competitions with a 3-1 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Goals: 0-1 Hernandez (23’), 0-2 Hernandez (39’), 1-2 Medojevic (45’), 1-3 Calhanoglu (72’)

Javier Hernandez (Leverkusen striker): “I’m happy I scored, but I’m happier we won. We won a very difficult away game in a difficult stadium against a difficult team. We’re really pleased with the three points and we need to keep going in this flow. On Tuesday we’re going to try to do the same against BATE in the Champions League.”

Ömer Toprak (Leverkusen defender): “We got into the game very well right from the off. We moved the ball around well and in the first half Frankfurt didn’t really cross into our half. We never really allowed them to get a foothold in the game. Chicharito’s a great guy and has settled in well here. We’re delighted to have him.”

Kevin Kampl (Leverkusen midfielder): “Of course I’m happy we won, especially after losing so many games recently. It was a great performance as a team today.”

Roger Schmidt (Leverkusen coach): “That was a very tidy performance from us today. We were very compact as a team, played good football and kept the ball a long way from our own goal. We can build on that display. I’m delighted we played well. It does the team a lot of good to have a striker like Chicharito who scores regularly. He’s integrated himself very well into our style of play. The fact he’s scoring so often is extraordinary.”

Armin Veh (Frankfurt coach): “On the balance of play, it was a deserved win for Leverkusen. We wanted to play on the counter-attack, which was no longer possible after the injury to Luc Castaignos. The goal to make it 3-1 killed us off. That shouldn’t happen. We had men over and should have known Calhanoglu would come inside.”

Bastian Oczipka (Frankfurt defender): “The way we conceded goals today was a catastrophe. Luc’s [Castaignos] injury deprived us of pace up front. We had hoped to use him on the counter.”

Slobodan Medojevic (Frankfurt midfielder): “We conceded goals too cheaply today. It was good that we pulled a goal back before half-time and then we had the chance to make it 2-2. Unfortunately we didn’t take it. I’m happy with my goal but it would have been much more important if we’d won.”

Lukas Hradecky (Frankfurt goalkeeper): “Their first goal was my mistake. I shouldn’t have played the ball short there, even if our team is good enough to build from the back like that. It just didn’t work today. Leverkusen were too good for us.”
