Norbert Meier has been relieved of his duties as SV Darmstadt 98 head coach with immediate effect.

Ramon Berndroth, head of the Darmstadt youth academy, has been appointed in his stead on an interim basis, while sporting director Holger Fach has also left the club.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the Lilies were beaten 2-0 at home by Hamburger SV - their fifth successive defeat.

"After careful analysis of yesterday's game, we reached the conclusion that the club needs fresh impetus to reverse the current negative cycle, and that is why this decision has been made," explained Darmstadt president Rüdiger Fritsch. "We thank Norbert Meier and Holger Fach for all of their hard work."

Meier, who replaced Dirk Schuster in the summer, leaves the club hovering precariously above the automatic relegation zone, a point clear of 17th-placed Hamburg.
