Bundesliga title-holders Bayern Munich will face Besiktas in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 after Monday's draw at UEFA headquarters in Switzerland.

Having finished second in their group to Paris Saint-Germain and with no other German club in the draw following Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig's exit, Bayern could have faced any of the other seven group winners.

Bayern reaction

Bayern and Besiktas have faced off in the Champions League twice before, with the Bavarians beating the Turkish outfit 2-0 home and away in the 1997/98 season on the way to topping Group E ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.

They will play host to Besiktas in the first leg in Munich on 13/14 or 20/21 February with the second leg in Istanbul on 6/7 or 13/14 March.

Thomas Müller: “We’re not unhappy with the draw and are looking forward to the tie. Of course we want to progress as far as possible, and it goes without saying we need a clean sheet in Munich. We want to put ourselves in a good position. It’ll be some atmosphere in the second.”

Arjen Robben: “It’s a great challenge. I’ve never played against Besiktas. We have to prepare well and be cautious. They were in a group with Leipzig and did well. The atmosphere in Turkey is always amazing, but first we have the home game and want to put ourselves in a good position.”

Joshua Kimmich: “I think it’s a good draw. We could’ve faced bigger teams on paper, but I’m looking forward to the game. I know from the Leipzig boys that it’s a great atmosphere there.”

Niklas Süle: “It wasn’t the worst draw for finishing second. It’s worked out quite well. We’re playing at home first, but Besiktas showed in a tough group they can play well. It’ll be a tough task but it could've been worse.”

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic: “We know how strong they are. We’ve followed their progress because they were in the same group as Leipzig. It’s a tough draw, so we’ll see what happens. Of course it’s not an advantage to play at home first, but we’re strong enough and accept it how it is. It’ll be an extraordinary atmosphere there, but also here in Munich. We’re looking forward to it.”
