Which Bundesliga team is best at finishing chances?
With Bayern Munich sitting at the Bundesliga summit and Robert Lewandowski leading the way in the scoring charts with 13 goals, you'd think the Bavarians are the best in the business when it comes to putting the ball in the net, right? Wrong.
In fact, in terms of finishing off their clear-cut chances – defined as being a one-on-one with the goalkeeper or having a clear shot on goal inside the opposition penalty area - Jupp Heynckes' charges are a distinctly mid-table team this season.
Bayern have created 31 such opportunities so far in 2017/18 but have only scored 14 of them. That gives Lewandowski, James Rodriguez and Co. a conversion rate of just 46.16 per cent, edging them just above Hannover (46.15 per cent) in tenth place in this particular league ranking.
Those of a Bayern persuasion will nevertheless be happy to see that arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund are even further down. Peter Bosz's men got off to a flier at the start of the campaign but their recent poor form is reflected in their finishing ability: BVB have carved out 29 gilt-edged chances but have only managed to finish off 12 of them (41.38 per cent).
It seems both teams could learn a thing or two about the art of scoring from Borussia Mönchengladbach, who are currently the Bundesliga's most ruthless in front of goal. The Foals may have only created the sixth-highest amount of 'he-must-score' chances (18), but they have tucked away 12 of them (66.67 per cent).
Hertha Berlin found out at first hand just how clinical Gladbach can be on Matchday 12, with Raffael, Lars Stindl and Thorgan Hazard all on target in a 4-2 thrashing.

Somewhat unexpectedly, Mainz are in second place behind Dieter Hecking's side in this metric. The 05er have only hit the target 13 times all season and are 12th in the overall Bundesliga table, but their ability to put away five of the eight big chances created (62.50 per cent) shows they are certainly doing something right.
Less of a surprise is the fact that Cologne are brining up the rear. Despite creating a respectable 11 clear-cut opportunities, the Billy Goats have only scored one of them (9.09 per cent), a disappointing return that goes some way to explaining why they have only managed four goals all season.
