Cologne – FC Augsburg have reacted to the departure of Abdul Rahman Baba by signing Greek international full-back Konstantinos Stafylidis from Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Experience to draw upon

The 21-year-old, who has signed a two-year contract at the club with an option to extend, will compete with fellow new arrival Philipp Max for the left-back berth in Markus Weinzierl’s side.

As well as boasting five caps for Greece, Stafylidis also spent last season on loan at English Championship side Fulham FC, and sporting director Stefan Reuter is convinced his experience will make him a valuable addition to the squad. “Konstantinos is a young player, whom we’re convinced can continue his development here with us,” says Reuter.

After defeat to Hertha Berlin on the season’s opening day, the Bavarians continue their campaign at Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 2 this Saturday.

"Welcome to Augsburg, Kosta! Red-green-white suits him, doesn't it?"
