Together with DFB, DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga will be lodging an application with FIFA to participate in the pilot phase of the use of video replays provided that the International Football Association Board (IFAB) approves this at its next annual general meeting on 5 March 2016 in Cardiff, Wales.

DFL's Management Board passed this resolution unanimously at its meeting today in Frankfurt/Main. On this basis, a two-year pilot phase is to be implemented for Bundesliga matches.

Far from acting as a senior referee, the use of video replays is to be integrated in the team of impartial match officials for the purpose of avoiding any evidently incorrect decisions.

The pilot phase will be preceded by intensive preparations. In addition to the settlement of still open questions with FIFA and IFAB and coordination among FIFA, DFB and DFL on such matters as the allocation of the costs of the system, intensive training will also be necessary for the candidates, who should already possess the highest possible qualifications.
