This coming weekend, German professional football will be commemorating the victims of the plane crash in Colombia by observing a minute of silence at all Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches.

Among the 70 victims were members and assistants of the Brazilian premier league football club Chapecoense. The team had been heading for the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final hosted by Atlético Medellin.

"By observing a minute of silence and wearing black armbands, we wish to show our sympathy with the victims' families, the survivors and Brazilian football and pay our respects to them," said DFL President Dr. Reinhard Rauball. "This accident is an unimaginable tragedy for the families concerned, for the entire country and for Brazilian football."
