Injured Wolfsburg star Luiz Gustavo to miss Copa America
Wolfsburg - VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Luiz Gustavo has been ruled out of this summer's Copa America after it was confirmed that the Brazil international requires surgery to repair an outer meniscus tear.
The 27-year-old battled through the last few games of the season, but it was clear after Saturday's 3-1 DFB Cup final win over Borussia Dortmund that an operation would be the most sensible way forward.
"It doesn't make sense for him to play at [the Copa America]," explained Wolfsburg head coach Dieter Hecking. "We hope that he'll be available before too long to take part in pre-season training."
