Mönchengladbach - Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension until 2019, with the option of a further year.

'Never any doubt I would extend'

The 22-year-old Swiss international joined Gladbach from FC Basel 1893 in 2012 and has since made 65 appearances in the Bundesliga.

"In these two-and-a-half years, Granit has made great strides and become one of the most important players in the team," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the club's official website. "We're excited that we have been able to tie him down for the next few years." Xhaka was no less delighted, saying: "I feel comfortable at Borussia and am in my third season here, so there was never any doubt that I would extend my contract. I'm proud and happy to be able to play for Borussia in the future." The Foals, who moved up to third in the standings thanks to a
