Wolfsburg - A minute's applause will precede VfL Wolfsburg's match with FC Bayern München on Friday in tribute to the late Junior Malanda, who died in a car accident on 10 January.

"It will be something different to the usual minute's silence," explained Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs. "We discussed the issue with our fans and came to the mutual conclusion that we didn't want silence. Instead we want to hear applause and love, to pick up where the funeral in Belgium left off in celebrating Junior's life."

Fans in the Volkswagen Arena's North Stand will also hold up green hearts during the applause, but have encouraged the rest of the attending fans to take part in the choreography. The club have already organised for thousands of the hearts to be placed on seats around the ground.
