Cologne - VfL Wolfsburg's underlined his creative credentials with a Player of the Week-winning performance on Matchday 10.

The 23-year-old Belgian international chipped in with his seventh league assist of the season, before netting his first Bundesliga strike since 10 May to take 44 per cent of the vote as the Wolves scored a crushing 4-0 win at VfB Stuttgart.

Top of the charts

"For an attacking player like me, this is just a really good time and that's down to the fact that we play quickly and directly," he enthused after the game. "We don't play with long balls - that's just not our style."

De Bruyne is now the runaway leader at the top of the assists chart, three clear of FC Bayern München's Thomas Müller, whose club-mate finished a close second (39 per cent) in the post-Matchday poll - as voted for by the bundesliga.com users - after grabbing the winning goal against Borussia Dortmund. Patrick Herrmann, who scored twice in Borussia Mönchengladbach's 3-1 win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, was a distant third (17 per cent).
