Leverkusen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes has taken another step on the road to recovery from injury after having screws removed from his ankle on Monday afternoon.

Successful procedure

The 32-year-old suffered a ligament tear in his right ankle following a challenge with Peter Niemeyer in die Werkself's4-2 win over Hertha Berlin earlier this season, leaving him sidelined since 30 August.

Dr. Peter Schäferhoff and club doctor Burak Yildirim undertook a successful operation to remove the screws at Cologne's MediaPark clinic, and the midfielder can now put all his energy into working towards his comeback. "My aim is now to return to full team training as soon as possible," explained Rolfes. "We'll have to wait a little to see how everything develops. But naturally I'm hoping everything will move along relatively quickly."
